On today’s run I talk about recovery. Recovery is as important as the run itself. Without proper recovery it can burn you out. To me there are two types of recovery, recovery from easy runs and recovery from quality workouts like intervals and long runs. Easy run recovery is something that should be done, day to day automatically. Hard run recovery requires a little more effort.
I explore different aspects of recovery:
Rest
Recovery Runs
D.O.M.S. Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness
Nutrition
Ice Baths
Stretching
Massage
I’ve tried many of these and I discuss my experience with them.

Show Notes Episode 2:
An Introduction to Podcasting. I’m having a lot of fun recording and editing my podcast. It is a challenge trying to get the sound quality to the level you want it to.
An Introduction to me Ultradad. I’m a forty something runner which sounds oh so familiar if you are a podcast fan. I think Steve Runner from Pheddipidations, Nigel from Running from the Reaper, and Steve Chopper from A mile with me podcast are all “forty something”.
My family – I have three kids now and we are adopting a fourth. Yeah we’re crazy but we love kids and we still have love to give. My beautiful wife is sleeping right now as are my kids and one dog. I take the other dog out for all my runs.
My Setup- I run with an Olympus VN4100 PC. I shopped around a bit but this one was the most economical and seemed to suite my needs. I didn’t want to buy online. I have a Griffin Stereo Lapel microphone which seems to pick up a lot of noise. I’m still working on this.
My training program- Monday 5 miles, Tuesday and Thursday are XT Strength with miles added in, Wednesday is Intervals or Fartlek for speed. Thursday is the same as Tuesday, Friday is rest and Saturday is the long run.
I’m training for my first ultra a 50 miler.
Adoption Plans – We are currently awaiting our referral. This is one of the last steps in the adoption process. I say the last because I don’t want to make it seem longer than it’s already been. We have a ways to go!
Swim Club – Family first. We have 6 meets in the span of 8 weeks. Unfortunately they are all day meets and will definitely coincide with the long run day.
Oh yeah and I love Firefighting. I’m a volunteer firefighter but sometimes that gets in the way too.
Thanks for listening!
